So what are these 9:00 and 10:30 classes?

“Continuing Education” at 9:00 on Saturdays is skills for people who are already through Basic Obedience. Even if you never want to compete, this 9:00 class is a way to get out with your dog and practice good manners around other dogs and people. If you’re competitive, it’s a practice arena. Over the winter we will practice CGC and CD skills, take some days for Rally practice courses, and sample some other activities like Freestyle dancing, Backpacking and Drafting (the carry and pull work we ask dogs to do requires some thought and training, too). Rally Obedience is a new competition where a team of dog and person follow signs around a course that is different at each trial. It is meant to be a fun way to practice between that CGC and “Novice”, the Companion Dog or CD title. We tailor this class to the people attending, so voice your interest!

“Basic” at 10:30 is the first “how to” class touching on manners and problems and presenting the tools to work toward the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Certification. This is the sit - walk politely - come when called sort of class that will help you strengthen your relationship with your dog. It starts with Dog learning to pay attention and leave something alone when told. It has fun tricks and games besides the sit and lie down and go for a walk. Not all is fun and easy, you have to practice, but it is the basis of all we do with our dogs. Remember, basic manners are the start of all the fun things we can do with our dogs.

Then some practice gets us ready for that Canine Good Citizen test. Have you and your dog done yours lately? Pick up a flyer or go to the AKC web site. CGC evaluations are arranged on Saturdays whenever enough people feel ready.

The 7 week Beginning (Basic) class is $80, Continuing Education classes vary by length and arrangement. All are Pre-Register, please. Call Leslie at (757) 657-9067 for information. Pick up a card at the Boarding Office so you remember that number, and pick up a CGC flyer, too!
